Árvore da Vida (Tree of Life)
The Tree of Life Program by Fiat Automobiles, in partnership with the non-governmental organizations AVSI and CDM, promotes social development in the Jardim Teresópolis neighborhood, in the city of Betim, MG. To achieve that, it makes use of socio-educational actions, as well as activities aimed at work and income generation and community strengthening.
The project for the new headquarters favors personal integration and aligns with the principles of bio-efficiency in building, with natural ventilation, thermal efficiency and the recycling of industrial waste. The entrance of the building is a multi-purpose area for socialization, acoustically treated with materials left from the automotive production, such as wooden crates, fabric and corrugated fiberboard. Due to its ample size, the area is perfect for the collective activities of the Jardim Teresópolis community. The space brings together the building, the street and the sidewalk as one big veranda that serves as a ‘tool’ for meetings, coexistence and convergence.
The stairs and circulation areas are visible from the veranda, so as to provide a better reading of the whole and to avoid isolated spaces. The building was planned with four stories, and its structure will accommodate CooperÁrvore – the Tree of Life’s social cooperative – and other rooms for the program’s activities and an auditorium.
